RE: Opinion on 'curbside' slide on front (kitchen/living room)

I agree with the above. Most of the time we have plenty of room under the awning but as above, its easy to slide the kitchen back in when extra space is needed. Also, when that slide is in on our coach, there is still plenty of room to work in the kitchen as the drivers slide is still out. I like the flexability.

RE: Direct TV v/s Dish TV Satellite ... Opinions???

I have been very happy with Direct TV. I had Dish and had trouble getting the sat to lock on. Maybe just my dish. I don't have local channels but use the bat wing to get them. Since everything is going digital now, its easy to get HDTV reception over it. Now, if I am out in the boonies then all bets are off and I just use the Direct TV.

RE: Hydroxy. from water as a fuel suppliment.

Well, we were actually talking about this at work yesterday and my first reaction as a science trained person that there is no way it would help just as all the arguments above. I still think that as stated above it still won't work but I started thinking about it in another way. I am not thinking about absolute energy but about effeciency. Is it possible that a process added to a car or truck could alow the vehicle to be more efficient in its use of fuel thus giving you better end result such as fuel milage.
As an example, I am sure many have noticed a better fuel mileage when traveling to a higher altitude. Compatible with conservation of energy, you get better milage but less horsepower and acceleration. Its a trade off. GM is trying a version of this by reducing the number of cylinders running when at steady state on the interstate. You need less horsepower when at this time. You still have some losses secondary to drag, and dead mass from the unused cylinders.
How about a simulated high altitude situation by using liquid nitrogen to dilute out the oxygen in your intake stream. Your computer would on its own using its oxygen sensors or better yet, use a high speed O2 sensor to adjust the fuel ratios acordingly so at steady state you are using less fuel and thus generating less horsepower. When you need it, a solonoid would cut the N2 and boom, instant horsepower as O2 levels would be instantly higher. obviously this is just in my mind so the logistics and amount of N2 used or needed to simulate high altitude have not been thought out. I present this as an example of what could be or might be usefull.
FWIW.
On edit, above was stated for argument sake as it obviously takes energy to make liquid N2. Think in terms of effeciency.

RE: I'm Officially a Newmar Owner

Just love your coach. I have an 05 Kountry star and would love to trade up for your model. Love the bunks. That would be perfect for our two kids who now sleep on the living room couch. I may have to go and see what the damage would be to trade in my coach and move up to something as nice as yours. Just love it. Congrats on your purchase.
By the way, we took ours to Fort wilderness last year and had a blast. Would love to see more pictures and with the slides out.

RE: Post you Rig Pics Here

What the heck happened? I drive on roads like that in Colorado in my Jeep. You did not go over did you? Yikes!
No, I crashed my dirt bike, but I don't remember anything about the crash, the helicopter ride, or that whole day. I took a pretty good hit to the head, among other things. Luckily, I was there with a bunch of friends and one of them was able to drive my MH home (about 3 hours) after my wife came to pick me up at the hospital.Wow, glad you were OK. Seen a lot of devistating neurologic injuries over the years. Keep the top side up and happy trails!

What the heck happened? I drive on roads like that in Colorado in my Jeep. You did not go over did you? Yikes!Hey Tom,
Which Stonyford camp area is that?
I am out of Pleasanton and have yet to make the trek up that way, what is the road in to the staging/camp area like?
Thanks,
Len
That's at Davis Flat. Not much of a campground, really. More like a big dirt lot staging area. Here's a picture my buddy took of the road into Davis Flat:
http://randomdestruction.com/images/zoom/ZIZJOX/12.01.07_007.jpg
Not someplace where you want to be setting land speed records, but a perfectly decent road if you take it easy. Unfortunately, my last trip there (December 2007) ended up like this:
http://randomdestruction.com/images/zoom/ZIZJOX/IMG_5390_sm_crp.jpg
(That's me they're loading in the chopper)so I haven't been back since. But I'm pretty much healed up now and I'll be ready to head back after some rain falls. Maybe we can hook up and Caravan?

RE: Three times as much

My favorite thing to say to someone that likes to talk about gas milage in an RV is, "Oh,what gas milage does your house get?" It usually brings them back to reality. To me, milage on one of these is irrelivent compared to the total cost of the hobby. Heck, people spend half a million or more on a coach all the time. I spent just over 100K. People don't flinch when paying Lots of money for extras that are only for ego or fun but cheap fuel, the stuff that gives you the ability to move about people get emotional about when they have to pay more. I guess its because it was not on THEIR terms...

RE: Brake controller

I am sure this varies from coach to coach but I know mine did not have a plug under the dash. My Dealer installed mine and they had to tap into the wired under the dash. Their first attempt did not work. Took it back and the corrected it at their expence. Works perfect now. It would probably be worth it to take it to your dealer if they are good. If not, with out a good wireing diagram for under your dash, it may be tough.
Do you have a trailer hookup in the back? Look under and see if you have a wire going to the brake pin. If so, look at its color, usually blue. This should go up front to where your controller would be under the dash. Next you will need to locate the brake sensor wire, then lastly a hot wire and ground. On my Ford, the brake sensor wire was red but there is really no standard for these wires. The only one I have found to be consistent over the years is the blue wire but with RVs, all bets are off.
Good luck.

RE: Sell your RV because fuel costs too much

I wonder if its a good time to trade and upgrade? Fuel for my RV use is a very small % of my budget. We usually take one long trip a year and then use it for MANY small short trips. The amount of fuel we use even at 10 dollars a gallon will be cheaper than hotel rooms. We use it for tail gaiting, local racing and summer camping local. We occasionally take it on a 600 mile jaunt and every other year plan on a 3500 mile trip to Disney. With Kids, the price of flying, hotel, rentals etc... will always be a wash for me and does not come close to giving the same experience for my kids. Our family time durring the trip is priceless. As long as I have diesel available and its not rationed and in shortage then I will still buy it. The cost of travel will always follow the price of oil. You can find deals but the deals will still go up over time. You can't get something for nothing.
I have mine up for sale but not at a very reduced price. I am actually thinking of looking at a nicer unit.

RE: TV replacement 2005 Kountry Star. Pictures inside

"Nice Job!!!! We have the same setup with the original Sony as you had before your upgrade. This same box area with the Sony up front is pretty standard for Newmar. I have looked at several different types of front end Newmar TV changeouts/upgrades done by owners to change out the Sony and tried to take ideas from them and I really like yours. I will send you a PM inquiring about the exact TV you installed. "
No problem. I like the Idea of one poster about putting a thermostat in there to see how hot it gets. I just happen to have one sitting around. I will measure it after two hours of running.
The exact TV I got was the Samsung LN26A450 26 inch HDTV LCD.

RE: TV replacement 2005 Kountry Star. Pictures inside

Thank you all. I am now getting concerned about heat. I will just have to see how hot it gets. Every LCD I have seen crammed into a compartment has about the same cooling as mine. It really is not as tight as the pics make it look. The very dark trim and the black felt lining the box really hides the edges of the TV as to make it look all one piece flush mounted. It looks just as good if not better in person but air should be able to circulate around the TV quite easily. Like I said, if it does start to feel hot in there, I can pull the box back out in 5 min and put in some more vent holes and installing a computer fan back there would also be very easy. I really don't think it will be necessary. The TV does not touch the back of the cabinet box and there is a gap all the way around the sides. I really wanted the built in look so we will see how it goes. Its a relativly cheap TV in the big scheme of things as well. These things have really come down in price. 700 bucks will buy you a really nice one these days. I have no money in the mount and about 8 dollars in felt, 24 dollars in plywood and some of my rare time off work to play with my toy.
I mounted a 26 inch LCD outside last year in one of my side compartments and I will have to post some pics of my outdoor living room here. I think you all would appreciate it. I think working and changing these RVs is pretty fun and makes these thing your own. I encoruage all of you to start threads with pics showing your changes. Its really fun for me to see what you have done as well. I got my Ideas from several of you here on this forum, like the above poster with the same coach as mine. I spent a lot of time reading here before I picked up a screw gun. If I run into problems with heat, I will definatly post about it and how I solved it.

RE: TV replacement 2005 Kountry Star. Pictures inside

Not too shabby. Are there any vents on the back of the TV?
I was going to ask the same thing...those flat panel displays do throw a lot of heat...I think with an LCD he'll be OK. A plasma on the other hand... Well, they seem to get a lot hotter than their flat panel counterparts.
BINGO - Plasmas will get hot while LCDs draw much less energy and do not get near as warm as the Plasmas will - and LCDs might be a tad lighter as well. Regardless of what anyone wants in their home, in an RV when looking for a flat-panel it should be a LCD,imo.I could not find any tv that would fit any closer and I love samsung.

RE: Screen Door Rattle while Driving

Ok, I had a similar rattle but it was not the door itself as the rest of you have experienced. We could put our hand on the door while driving and the noise would persist. We found it was comming from the top folding hinge, not the piano hinge but the one at the top that is a folding arm to controll or limit the door travel. When the door was closed and it was folded up it was a little loose and would just sit there and rattle to beat the band. I took a piece of my wifes hair elastic for pony tails? and wedged it between it and it stopped. I felt good that day I can tell ya...

Nice garage floor there!
oh, and nice install on the TV!
Thanks, that is actually stained concrete if you can believe it. We experimented with it when I did my garage addition. We cut it with a concrete saw to form 2' tiles on diagonal. Stained and sealed it and then put in black grout. Turned out great. ITs been really tough as well. It usually shines more but is dirty. Needs to be buffed out.

RE: TV replacement 2005 Kountry Star. Pictures inside

Not too shabby. Are there any vents on the back of the TV?
There is a large hole where the wires go through. The TV has vents on the top and bottom. The bottom is wide open underneath so air can circulate easily. The top is a little tighter but still open and air can move from bottom to top and there is a spacer behind the TV pushing it away from the back wall of the box by around 2 inches. If it get a little warm, it would be a 5 min. job taking it back out and drilling a few holes back there. There is a 1/4" gap at the top and sides and 3" at the bottom. I have seen LCD displays in new coaches confined a lot more than mine. I will keep an eye on it though. I apreciate the advice.
